Challenge

SLR’s Place team was engaged in the design and delivery of landscape proposals for the 36ha Prime Four Business Park at Kingswells, Aberdeen.

Solution

SLR’s Place team was involved since early design stages, and worked with the lead architects on the ‘Planning Permission in Principle’ (PPiP) application for the masterplan and the various detailed applications for each plot.

The landscape proposals set the mixed-use development within a green framework of avenues, lawns, ponds, woodland and meadows. This strong landscape framework sets and unifies the various uses at Prime Four including office, retail, hotel, nursery and commercial. The focus for the development is the ‘Four Court’, a multi-use space accommodating retail pavilions and sports facilities within a quality landscape environment that engages with the surrounding ground floor uses. An extensive landscaped park to the north of the development compliments this formal space.

The masterplan was organised using the geometry of the agricultural field patterns typical of the area, using this to define each plot. Within each plot quality hard and soft landscape materials were used to set car parking and provide an identifiable point of arrival for the building.

Impact

Prime Four achieved BREEAM accreditation, and SLR’s Place team supported this through the design and delivery of a sustainable, bio-diverse landscape setting.
